KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) ? An Afghan official says a bombing in the country's west has killed a former Taliban commander who left the insurgency and joined the Afghan police force.
Farah province government spokesman Abdul Rahman Zhawandai says the remote-controlled bomb went off early Tuesday near Noor Mohammad Jahani's house in the provincial capital.
The spokesman says Jahani was killed and one of his bodyguards was wounded.
Jahani repudiated his Taliban ties two years ago and joined the Afghan police force.
Zhawandai says Jahani was in charge of two police checkpoints in Farah province's Bala Buluk district.
